The competitive field of electronic video gaming, esports, is experiencing a significant rise in worldwide popularity. The global esports audience is expected to reach 453.8 million in 2019, made up of 201.2 million esports enthusiasts and a further 252.6 million occasional viewers.
The DC Metro Area currently has 23 universities and colleges offering some form of curriculum and/or sanctioned esports clubs on campus. This is an attractive market for promoters with a built-in audience hungry for Live events.
In the United States, esports is projected to have more viewers than every professional sports league but the NFL by 2021. In the US, esports is projected to have 84 million viewers by 2021.

GATHER by Events DC is an online content platform that launched in September 2020 to engage audiences virtually amidst the pandemic. Through a library of on-demand video content, GATHER offered a compelling way to continue experiencing DC from anywhere.
With the return of live events, GATHER has entered an exciting new phase–becoming the destination to discover live events in DC via compelling video content. From event trailers for new festivals to short documentaries about iconic DC events, we aim to connect audiences to DC’s best experiences, year-round.
Stories captured by EMMY and GRAMMY-nominated filmmakers offer an unprecedented look inside the rarely-glimpsed world of embassy chefs and culinary diplomacy. Inspired by the annual culinary showdown this documentary series challenges audiences to deepen their understanding of foreign cultures.
Backstage at the Helen Hayes Awards was produced in partnership with Theatre Washington, the only organization dedicated to supporting and representing all sectors of DC's professional theater community. You can support DC theater by attending a local show, gifting tickets for the holidays, or donating to Theatre Washington’s Taking Care Fund.
Known as the creator’s game, lacrosse is meant to be played with intention and positive spirit. Born from indigenous Native American roots, lacrosse today is coming full circle to celebrate and honor its traditions. With the formation of the Premier Lacrosse League, the players and teams are embracing the past while working to create a more inclusive environment.

As an active and engaged community member, Events DC is proud to continue to support the future of non-profit organizations in Washington, DC that promote youth participation in both the arts and athletics.
For Fiscal Year (FY) 2022, Events DC is pleased to provide funding for the program of $500,000 during two grant cycles ($250,000 in the first cycle and $250,000 in the second cycle). The grant program provides financial support to qualifying non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting children through sports, performing arts or cultural arts in the District of Columbia.
